How exactly do gunfights work in this game?

So I'm running around, rushing like I usually do when I come accross some dumbass, tool, sitting on a headglitch with the usual target finder LMG BS. So I start shooting...I shoot first...but I still lose the gunfight. I get several hitmarkers before I die. I watched the kill cam, I hit him twice in the god damn head before he even lined up his sights on me. Of course he won, un-silenced LMG...doesn't matter that I shot AND hit first.

So what is this crap? Connection? Garbage weapon balance? A bit of both? If I shoot first and hit first, I should win the gunfight. Hell, even in Modern Warfail 3 if I hit my target first I'd always win the gunfight.

VONDEHAAAAAAAAAAR, FIX YOUR GOD DAMN GAME!

The reason why you lost in this case is because of hit detection. By itself, LMG's are not powerful weapons, they're just lightweight machine guns that are pretty automatic. Secondly, Target Finders has a quick draw speed, so whenever someone starts to aim at you, the target finder "clicks" faster. Try the attachment someday, you'll see what I mean.

The other thing that I've found with Target Finders is the accuracy, too. It's not on the stats list, but the accuracy is there, much because of the distance.

The other possibility is the other player was lagging. To you, it looks like he's playing slow, but on his side of the world, he's playing normal.

What Carlos said is pretty spot on but here is what I can add:

1. Lag on your side of the game that made it look like you shot him, but really didn't.
2. Take into account that a LMG uses a larger round than other guns (except for snipers) and therefore does more damage, quicker.

I'm not saying that you didn't get screwed, but there are a lot of factors that come into play when it comes to firefights in COD. Most likely it was just lag :(
