Its running through a system called Skill Based Matchmaking (SBMM) and/or Engagement Optimized Matchmaking (EOMM). How long have you played Call of Duty? Are you a good player? What's your rank? What's your kill/death ratio? Those are rhetorical questions to you. But I mean, when Activision looks at your profile, those are the questions it asks. It fetches your profile with your rank, how long you've been playing, what game you played, what is your rank... along those lines. On top of this, your connection is running through A.I. today. I'm not joking. I have at least 3 videos on this subject.

That sounds like a lot. I play almost daily and never get to wait this long.
As Carlos mentioned, the game will try to assign you to a group based on multiple variables, even if in the "open" modes this is less of a problem really, but : what region are you in ? And what game modes are you trying to play ? (I'm mostly playing core tdm here, and it's a few sec).
