Hello everyone,

I am facing an issue with Modern Warfare 2 (2022).
I can find sth. on the internet about it, though, there seems to be no solution, yet.

First of all, my game is using every last bit of CPU power available.
Closing applications only makes room for more CPU power that the game instantly consumes.
NOTE: This only appears to happen when inside a match. In the menu, I am at about 40 % usage.

Secondly, the game randomly freezes and then crashes.
This also - but only sometimes - causes the whole computer to shut down and boot back up again.

GPU: GeForce RTX 3070 Ti

Temperatures are fine.
The game files have been checked through Steam with no issues.
Lowering the graphics settings does not change the CPU usage.
All drivers are up-to-date.

If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful - please refrain from "I have the same issue" comments.

Have you run the ingame Benchmark feature? I am also curious about your graphics card. Do you have 3 power connections on that card and are you using all 3 of them? Im a bit concerned that your 650w power supply may not be enough.

Which driver version are you running currently? Lots of chatter on the internet about this and most agree that it is related to nvidia.

  • As this Reddit user suggested, switch off 'Instant Replay' in GeForce Experience and stop running MSI Afterburner.
  • Roll back the Nvidia Drivers to 522.25 or 516.59 as the new update is buggy.
  • Disabling Nvidia Ansel fixed the issue for this Reddit user. So, it's worth a try. To disable Nvidia Ansel:
    • Run the command prompt as administrator and type: cd c:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_d223212c0a2275b5\NvCamera\
    • Then, type: NvCameraEnable.exe off
  • Try running Battle.net/Steam as well as Modern Warfare 2 as administrator.
  • Turn off texture streaming and in-game downloads.
  • Choose the Interface sub-option inside the Settings tab. Scroll down until your find the ‘Parallax Effects‘ and turn it off.
As always, any advice is provided "as is" so I recommend to do a System Restore point prior to doing anything.

The card only requires 2 power connections and both are connected.
The PSU is absolutely sufficient for this system.
I have had no issues in this regard when running it on max load for literally 12+ hours for days over the past few months.

As per your reccomendation in your second answer, I have tried
- running back nvidia drivers
- running Steam & the game as administrator
- turning off Parallax Effects
without any solution.

Instant Replay Is not enabled & trying to turn off Nvidia Ansel apparently does not work for me:

As for other in-game settings, I have enabled and disabled everything without any improvement.
I also do not see the issue of the game crashing originating from any third-party software.
As of now, I am highly assuming it's CPU demand has sth. to do with it.

My CPU certainly is not the newest nor fastest, but running at 4,6 GHz on all cores and having to provide all of its computing capacities to this game just does not seem right; even Cyberpunk doesn't do that.

ive tried everything i have found online, gpu drivers, overlays, whatever and nothing works. the only thing that seems to give me a day or two of relief is resetting firewall to default but eventually it does it again. there is alot of players through battlenet and steam having this issue so it is not our pc,s it is on the game side and has somthing to do with game_ship.exe atleast thats what pops up on my screen everytime and i cant locate that file on my pc. anyways i think this is on the game creators and hopefully through an update it will get fixed. and i cant believe that battlenet or whoever has not even put out any info that they know about it and are fixing it. i have sent in a ticket want a refund which will probably not happen. im just starting to get into streaming and not even going to do mw2 because of freeze ups. ill be doing mw2019 and global offensive.
