I was watching Good Game (TV show) they said that one of the hot shots from Activision would if he had the power make the COD franchise subscription payed. Like World of War craft you have to pay money just to log on to the game each month.
Good Game - ABC TV (Watch episode on for the 5th of July, Watch the gamer news segment.)

It's not going to happen but, here's a question would you still play if you had to pay money to go online? Personally I wouldn't, COD costs a bomb to start, add $20 or so a month you would be spending ridiculous amounts of money. Even worse for Xbox users who already pay a subscription fee.

Feel free to post your opinion.

I remember reading a bit about this back in early February - So not too long after the massively successful release of MW2, then a lot more money coming in from Christmas sales. I assumed it was just greedy, wishful thinking and not actually a realistic goal.

If they were to release a Call of Duty with a subscription fee, I guess the MMO people have been talking about, I just can't see how it would work? What would your subscription fee get you?

I guess you'd be able to buy equipment, weapons, outfits, develop specific skills? But part of the fun of CoD is just being able to throw the disk in and start killing. It works because it only takes a few hours to unlock new weapons and attachments.

Given just how popular the CoD series is I can see a lot of people willing to pay for this, just because it has the Call of Duty name on it. I wouldn't be one of them though.

I'm hopeful that we'll be seeing exciting things coming from the guys who left the CoD team recently. I'm pretty confident their releases will have a bit more heart, and won't be so much about greedy corporations wanting to milk the series for all its worth.

I'm sorry to disagree with you, Jason. Even though that ReSpawn is a start-up, it is practically owned by Electronic Arts. Which is also a corporation.

But then again, I do agree that it will have a little heart because part of being an entrepreneur is learning from prior mistakes. West and Zampella are learnt from Activision's crappy communications.
