Call of Duty WWII Revealed

I admit that I'm approaching this with mixed feelings. The trailer looks amazing, as they always do, and I definitely will buy it this November. I also always wanted one of the games to have a level on Omaha Beach, and now it looks like that we will get that. There's definitely a Saving Private Ryan feel to the game, and it's definitely appreciated.

However, I also can't shake the feeling that it's a way of playing it safe after all the advances that have occurred from the COD 4 onward. That an AW sequel was planned, and it was scrapped because of the "anti-futuristic bullshit" backlash. I always said that I didn't see what else could be done in WWII, as it had been basically harvested to death. I also notice that the YouTube comments showcase a lot. There are a lot of dislikes, and comments of "whoever dislikes this clearly loves IW." Simply put, the divisions in the community are only going to get worse, and Activision and the three developers may lose everything in trying to pander to the haters and casual fans.

Wasn't a big fan of Sledgehammers MP with Advanced Warfare so I'm not sure about this BUT I'll be definitely getting it because I loved using the kar98k in Call of Duty 2 and the nostalgia alone is enough for me to purchase the game.

Advanced Warfare was a good game. Very well done. Sledgehammer Games are good developers, you can expect a great Single Player campaign. :)

Not sure about the MP, since they're trying to go all innovative with it. A victory in WW2 depends entirely how well you work with others. If one of your troops die, and it's one of your favorite abilities being used by that troop, then you will lose that ability. For example, if you lose the medic soldier, you lose the ability to heal. One problem: This is Call of Duty, which is rife with trolls. People can hold onto ammos or healing abilities just to piss you off and throw you off your game.

I also think the trailer is awesome, as usual. I'm also approaching this with mixed feelings. I'm not a huge fan of the WW2 theatre, I was more of a fan of the Modern Warfare theatre. I played both COD2 & 3 at both E3 2005 & 6. Never was interested in Call of Duty until COD4.

Sledgehammer Games co founders had been interested in making World War 2 themed game for years. I do understand what you meant, though... Advanced Warfare was going to get a sequel, hell, they even made a cliffhanger ending at the end of Advanced Warfare. I wouldn't mind going back there.

And yes, you're right, the division in the community is only going to grow even worse than with Infinite Warfare.

I like the WW2 titles a lot. I always felt that COD3 was the weakest not just in that group, but of the series as a whole. It's still very good, but you can tell that Treyarch rushed it, as there are lot of texture popping problems, pixels where you can get stuck and unable to move, and it seems like your shots are far weaker than in the other games, as it takes more shots to kill enemies, while theirs are stronger. I've died far more often in this game than in any of the others.

We now have two titles that had sequel-baited endings and now will never be finished. I had been looking forward to seeing the further progression in Ghosts, seeing what would become of Logan after going through Rorke's conditioning, getting more background about events like the Tel Aviv War and learning more about the Federation, and seeing them take their rightful place as the true antagonists of the piece. (I always hated that Rorke was treated like the main focus, when he never actually was. He's just a bounty hunter for hire, and thus a massive step backwards compared to villains like Makarov, Dragovich and Menendez.) AW, meanwhile, was also going to clearly have a sequel in showing the characters deal with the aftereffects of Irons' plans and dismantling it further, but Sledgehammer lost their nerve because "their little feelings got hurt" because of hateful assholes on the Internet. I feel so thoroughly cheated, and I don't think I can fully reconcile myself to what was lost. At least Infinity Ward had the sense to make IW's plot all wrapped up within a single game so that when they moved onto something new (which you know they will, after all that's happened), we at least aren't left hanging.

Simply put, I can't help but feel disappointed in how Activision and the three developers are responding to the criticism and not being the absolute darlings like they were for the last decade, even though the vast majority of people still love the new titles and they are extremely profitable. It strikes me as cowardice, and I do know that if I was in charge, I wouldn't let these Internet trolls get to me and make me switch plans so transparently in a way to coddle the haters, hipsters and pontificating critics that think they know what's best for the franchise.
