Help with playing campaign offline

Before I snap my game disc in half and post it to Activision, can anyone tell me why I can't play the campaign without installing all the updates? I managed to start the campaign after accepting the first update (even though I don't want to play online) the update took 45 mins to upload used a lot of storage space and wasn't needed because I never play online. Then I went to continue the campaign tonight and I got the same message I got when I first installed the disc, update required, when I select continue without installing update to play offline, the disc loads I select start, then I get connection failed, update required and retry and exit. Aaaaaarrrrggh!!!!!!
I just want to play the campaign!!!

i could be wrong but i think to play any mode the whole game has to be installed including updates.

Thanks for the reply, I don't understand why is gives the option to skip update to play offline if you can't actually do that?
