The attributes needed for success

There are quite a few things you'll need to build a successful Call of Duty MLG Clan. Because you are here, you are already taking the first step and looking to grasp a better understanding which is important for anything you're passionate about. You should always have an understanding of what you're getting into and how to get the most out of it and achieve the amount of success you're working towards.

Drive & Motivation
Character & Charisma
Heart of a Leader
Lots of Time and Money

If Hector Rodriguez can why cant you?

The owner of Optic Gaming Hector Rodriguez had a vision and he believed in his vision. He probably considered quitting many times and doing something he knew would without a doubt give him a payout but in the end he followed his heart and look where it got him. If you're not scared you're going to fail then you're not aiming high enough. Drake said it best, "everybody dies but not everybody lives". Hector chose to take a chance on his dream and it payed off. Most cases of people failing is when they only put in half their effort out of fear and they try to play it safe because they don't want to fail. Anything is possible you just have to believe it is and you have to keep going for it.

So how do I build a Call of Duty MLG Clan?

If you have the proper drive and motivation the rest will fall into place as long as you keep working for it. There will be bumps in the road so you cant be the type of person to just give up when things don't go the way you plan immediately. You have to understand everything is a process and you have to make sure this is really your dream and not just a phase.

How do I know if this is just a phase?

Think to yourself, if it takes you 5 years to reach this goal would you still want to go for it? If there you could possibly never reach such a goal would you still want to go for it? I personally live by this motto, "I'd rather live life on my terms and fail doing what I believe in than to live a lie a succeed doing something I hate." You have to do some things you don't like to get where you're going but is this something you are willing to go for no matter what? If it is...you are ready to continue reading but if not reading past this point is just a waste of your time.

Character & Charisma

You need to have Character & Charisma because if people don't like you then you won't get far. As the owner of a team in order to manage this is crucial as well as attracting the type of players you want. You want to be the type of person sponsors want to work with and that companies would like to fly out to meet and at the same time you want to attract strong players that are the same because that is where your fan base will come from. One moldy piece of bread will affect the other pieces. Not only can 1 rotten player make the team look bad but the player can also change your other players which could potentially ruin everything you're working to build. If you want your team to last and have a great and prosperous organization then you have to have an organization with like-able people with lots of character and charisma.

Heart of a Leader

You have to have the heart of a leader. I'm going to use One Piece (The Anime) as an example. The main character is Monkey D. Luffy and when he started out he had to find his crew mates. The traits he displayed are the reason all of his crew mates decided to follow him. He is strong, he refuses to ever give up, he has a dream and he won't let anything stop him from reaching his goals but at the same time he is silly, fun, and has all the qualities of a great friend. The best leaders a lot of the times make the best friends which is why people choose to follow these people.

Getting players and forming a team is simple enough but building a solid clan is much more than just playing the game. This team really has to be managed. Someone has to get sponsors, someone has to build up the fan base and awareness of the clan. The players can do this but there needs to be someone who puts 110% into doing this for your team for it to go far. Meet with sponsors and give your team new opportunities.

Lots of time & Money

Last but not least a team needs lots of time and lots of money. It takes time to build a fan base, to practice and get good as a team, to practice and get good as an individual player, to get sponsors, and to manage all the business side of a clan. It's 2014, long gone are the days where a clan is just a group of people who like playing together. Yes, that's a big part and it always will be but this is a business. It will also cost money because the team needs to travel, buy tickets to events, even live stream which takes a good computer and a capture card. It will even cost money to make money if you want to generate money for your team doing things like YouTube and Twitch but we will get into that in a later article.
