I'm really feeling the futuristic feel...

I love that this game takes place in the future, as many nowadays do. However, for me, what stands out is that it is more "realistic" kind of future, as opposed to the fantasy, other-world type games. Although I have read commentary from both sides of the spectrum, I see many people think the futuristic feel is all but un-COD-like. What are your thoughts?

CoD started out in WWII and then has hit the Cold War and modern times (Modern Warfare, get it? :P) since then. It only makes sense for the game to give the future a shot. Other time periods have been fleshed out enough in CoD. Plus, bringing things to the future allows the game to come up with some things people haven't seen before, or at least a different take on things we have seen.

It's the most CoD-like thing out there.

If I am not mistaken, Black Ops 2 has already stepped into the "futuristic future", has it not? We had wrist watches that could summon in Warthogs and many other futuristic aircrafts, new guns and gadgets and a few futuristic settings (such as Drone, too bad nobody votes for it).

Can't wait to check out this timeline myself. I'm just hoping that it doesn't end up changing things too much and loses the usual COD feel.
And Black Ops 2 did step in the futuristic theme, but only for a few elements. From what I've seen, AW will really focus on the immersion into this theme.

I hoped for a more Arcade-y gameplay like Quake or UT, but this is good. It's like a cross between the multiplayer of Crysis and Titanfall.

It did, but there was not much "different" about Black Ops 2. I liked BO2, don't get me wrong. But, most of the game seems like it has already been done. The MP maps seem like the game is still stuck in Modern times, which is why I think everyone is praising the way the futuristic design in CODAW looks. I mean, every map takes you to the future. The prison map (Riot) has these innovative windows in front of the cells - it tells you the vitals of prisoners in there. Some maps show how futuristic buildings will be like. I feel like Activision missed a major opportunity with these walls made of posters. In-game advertisements; much like WipeOut XL, where Red Bull signs were everywhere. You'd almost think it's not even a real company. That's what I thought when I saw those "ads."

I'm torn, but that's a good thing for me. I love the old fashioned war type games like MW2, and I like the futuristic games. That doesn't mean one is better than the other, it means I have a multitude of games I can play whenever I feel like playing either way. In BO2 I *hated* the futuristic feel - especially Guardians and Shock Charges. But BO2 is my favorite now, I could just do without those things. Now that AW is a *completely* futuristic game (not half/half like BO2), I can deal and I actually really like it.
