Letter to Activision... SBMM; not what you think it is.

Hi there Activision!
I am one of those new gamers that was your target audience for MW. I have to say, at first I really enjoyed playing your game as I was learning the ropes of what COD is all about. The realism in this game is insane! From your campaign to your MP playlists I truly believed your game was ahead of the curve, despite what all the “COD loyalists” were saying. Who wants 3 lane maps? How simple right?

But I pride myself on being a quick learner and mastering whatever obstacle I face, yet the system you put in place with SBMM has left me at a standstill. I quickly rose my SPM to 100, but since the game’s Beta, my KD just continually plummeted. I was that corner camper with a 725 and 2 claymores. I was that guy. But every time I have 1 good game, I get forced into a lobby with much better players than me because SBMM determined me to be on their level; and I just wasn’t.

So the overwhelming question is, despite all the videos and research I’ve done on how to become a better player and truly master the game, am I getting better? And if I am getting better (which I suppose I am because the lobbies are getting more and more challenging), was your intention with SBMM to have every player have FUN in 1 game out of 10. Because that is where I am at currently.

I have done my due diligence. I have studied your maps and common lines of sights. I have completed Damascus. I have learned 10+ modes and spawn patterns. I have wrestled with perks and weapon classes and their attachments. But, it’s not fun.

I decided to purchase the two prior games to experience what MP feels like with no SBMM. WW2 is amazing! I have tons of fun because I’ll enter a lobby and drop 20+ kills with a 2+ k/d.... and then I can stay in that lobby. What’s more? I get the option to vote on a map. So I get a say in my own success, playing to my strengths. Granted, everything else about the game is not up to par with MW, but it’s fun. Black Ops 4, it’s quirky and silly, but fun!

At the end of this letter I hope you take away this one very important point. While your game is addicting and I’m hooked for the remainder of its lifespan, I WILL NOT use my hard earned money or time on another one of your games if it has SBMM. It is only works up to a point. What really hurts is that you installing SBMM tells me what you think of new players; that we’re mindless oafs that will never catch onto the scheme. You should think better of noobs because everyone was a noob once. And instead of drawing more people to COD, I believe in the end you will actually have pushed people away. Not just your core base, but the noobs who catch on will resent you for thinking so little of them and the stranglehold you put on our progress with SBMM.

First off, what the heck is SBMM?? :D

As far as being put into lobbies with better players, there is a solution to that..

Play 3 or 4 matches where you shoot wildly at anything and everything.. By all means, find some enemies, but just spray the map.. Shoot in all directions..

After 3 or 4 matches of that, the algorithm will determine that you can't hit the broadside of a barn and will place you in lobbies filled with other target-challenged individuals for about 10-12 matches.. There you will rule the school...

It's not exact.. It might take you more spray/pray matches to get there.. And, of course, you will get killed a lot.. But to have a series of matches where you can clean up?? It's worth it..

Skill Based Matchmaking.

@TricusSpider This isn't the official Activision/Call of Duty Forums, but thanks for the post! :)

I was a run and gunner (and still am), but I'm currently gravitating to the whole 725 + Camper schtick. I'm currently priding myself in being that guy that pisses people off with a 725 and two claymores next to my camping spot. I do it in Shoot House, Khandor Hideout, Shipment, and whatnot. I've even gotten a Juggernaut with it. Oh, don't believe me? Here ya go...

Ooof. All that rage at the end? Worth it.
