You can turn off cross play, but doing so will also match you with similar players - albeit under circumstances where PlayStation players are checked out.
Ideas:
- PlayStation 4 vs PlayStation 5 players cross play is turned on.
- PlayStation 4 MOUSE/KEYBOARD players vs PlayStation 5 MOUSE/KEYBOARD players
- PC players hacking using PlayStation 4/5 controllers masquerading as MOUSE/KEYBOARD player.
Many players are checked out of Call of Duty. Myself included. I haven't played a Call of Duty game since Modern Warfare III. Why? SBMM. You're waiting in the lobby because of SBMM matching with a certain pool of players. Let's say you're in rural California, you're going to be matched with similar players IN THAT region. So, the smaller the pool, THE LONGER.... Wait times.

I’ve noticed this as well, i usually have cross play on and I’m still apparently the only PS player in the room….
