Weird update. Not enough space to play.

I just bought this game and played it yesterday. Deleted a bunch of stuff so I could just install it only having 4GB free space afterwards. Now the game today is starting to download a 17 GB update that I have no space to even install. And the game says that this update is required to play the game. Why is this happening?
 
It also not letting me modify my install before it has finished this "update". Looks like I haft to uninstall the whole thing then reinstall it. Jezz.
