kinda stupid question but is it just killls or can you get weapon xp from capturing objectives like picking up dog tags and what about doing chalenges with that weapon

what all levels up your weapon

XP and Weapon XP is separate. Your overall XP can be earned through kills, capturing objectives, picking up dog tags, all challenges including weapons, and whatnot. While weapon XP unlocks new weapon levels, and whatnot. Once you reached a specific level, you get an unlocked weapon camo, and other goodies.

You can only level up a gun by getting kills with it or completing challenges for the gun.
Veteran challenges carry over for the gun. So if you're at 499 out of 500 kills for the gun and you're close to a prestige... you can put the gun away until your prestige and when you unlock it again (or if you already have it unlocked) you can kill that one dude and unlock about 3-4 attachments and a few camos all at once.
If you stick with one gun a lot you won't even have to worry about leveling it. It'll just take care of itself (assuming you do alright when you play).
A good tip if you're grinding out a gun is to run the specialist strike package. The reason for this is that you'll be forced to use your gun more to get kills which will help you level it faster. I did this with the Spas-12 and I've almost got the gold camo for it.

Kills Kills Kills, Thats all it is!
And weapon challenges but i don't really do them.
You'll complete the challenges without really realizing and the attachment challenges arn't worth doing. Good Luck with the gold guns!!
