Do you use social media? Next time, follow Call of Duty on FB, Twitter or whatever. News sites also tell you when new seasons end. This site will also keep you up to date.
Also, the "Rank Progression" menu, under "Barracks" menu, there is a countdown. It's a countdown for the end of season.

I would try to talk to customer support. If you're lucky you might be able to convince them to transfer your purchase to season 6

I will recommend you to use gaming sites as a means of getting news. As I said, this site will keep you updated as news comes. My other site, DestroyRepeat is a gaming news site. But Activision has their own communication through their Blog. They also have FB, Twitter, reddit, whatever. You wouldn't have this issue if you check things.
