WWII In-Depth Review

(This is based on me having seen the entire game through the playthrough posted on YouTube by theRadBrad)

The release of COD WWII could've easily ended up as a disaster: just merely playing it incredibly safe and using the original premise of the series as little more than a security blanket because being unable to determine what to do or where to go. The fact that it truly is more than that shows great talent on the part of the people of Sledgehammer Games, and they were able to conjure up the most human, most visceral narrative in a very long time. The characters are incredibly fleshed out, and you truly feel that you know them just as well as the people you know in real life.

The little touches are what really sell the game. Moments clearly drawn from more recent films like Hacksaw Ridge, Rousseau getting her revenge in a scene that wouldn't feel out of place in Inglourious Basterds (the man even has many of the characteristics of Hans Landa), and so on. But probably the biggest and best touch was the epilogue scene in the stalag. I understand there was no way the game was going to have the characters be in Auschwitz or Dachau, but to have any kind of acknowledgment of the crimes against humanity the Nazis committed is quite a brave step, especially in the charged atmosphere we find ourselves in today.

That said, I feel that there simply isn't really anything else to do in WWII, and that COD has completely worn out the premise by now. Hopefully, Sledgehammer will be recharged in terms of tackling AW, which has a better chance for a sequel than Ghosts at this point, as well as find interesting new narratives to tackle.

Necessarily you can't give an in-depth review if you haven't played it man.
I was so ready to read your review and determine the way I would play it.
Thanks for the review though.
